Round 1 and 2 of the 2010 VIC series was back at the picturesque location of Noojee nestled amongst the hills at Coop’s private property. The well laid out property was the perfect location for a weekend away racing. There was a buzz around the campsite and pits over the weekend, with plenty of new teams formed and riders keen to get back racing..

** Special thanks to the Land owners James Barry, Steve Cooper and the Edger Family.**

Three loops were laid out for the punters, Edgers loop for the juniors and women, and Hut loop and Kokoda trail for the rest of the field. Both Edgar’s loop and Kadoka trail started and finished ducking and weaving through the tight gum trees which ended up heavily rutted and had riders looking for fresh lines by the end of day 1.

The flat terrain experienced during the first minute of the loops was certainly no indication of the tight hilly switchbacks that were to come and dominate the majority of the loop. Some steep descents, off camber switch backs, and gnarly hill climbs keep riders on their toes, and plenty of punters off in the bush or stuck on a hill which I’m sure was entertaining for everyone but them!

With hot sunny conditions, and rain that only threatened briefly on Sunday, tracks were rapidly deteriorating and a couple of hills were cut out for Sundays racing. Skatey conditions, deep ruts and foot high powder in most sections kept it interesting for the riders and pit crews busy with filter changes.

In the Pro Senior Class Blake Hore finished on top both days (second outright), followed by Dale Martin and Brendan Harper. Pro Junior saw Daniel Milner take the win (Outright winner both days) with a solid margin. Mitch Harper and Chris Davey made up the podium.

Expert classes produced some great racing as expected with Rhys Bennett, Tym Davey, and Troy Maynes making the podium for E1. Russell Walter and Rick Miles had victories in the E2 class, with Jayden Grimshaw and Aaron Bonfadini taking the final spot on the podium on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Andrew Jackson and Owen Lock traded top spots in the Expert over 35 class, with Tayfun Ugrasbul taking third both days.

Intermediate saw Josh Williams win both days, with Ben Brennan and Jacob Deagon sharing the remaining spots on the podium. In the juniors the J3 Class dominated by Alex Stephenson who posted a ninth outright for Sunday’s racing – a huge result! Daniel Sanders took second both days, with Jay De Haan and Jaymes Day sharing third position. Trav Cooper dominated the J4 class on both days.

Clubby classes saw two riders (Michael Berwick and Brandon Healey up from intermediate) dominate both days to be put straight up to expert class - a great result for these boys! This left Karl Masterdon and Matthew Keily to have a wins in C1, Joel O’Brien and Steven Tjepkema in C2, and Dean Minichiello and Aaron Uebergang taking wins in C3. The over 35s class had Leon Hughan and Lee Ebdon on the top spot of the podium, Darrin Bourke winning both days for over 40s and Darren White and Pete Golding for Masters over 45s.

Over at Edgers loop, the ladies class was dominated by Melissa Moring. Lyndon Snodgrass took the honours for J1 (9- under 12yrs), with Tom Mason and Jake Salems winning J2 (12 – under 16yrs).

All in all it was a great first weekend of racing for the 2010 Yamaha Victorian Off-road Championship, with plenty of great racing leaving everyone keen for more at the next round. Get pumped for Erica Enduro on 24/4 for Juniors and 25/4 for seniors!
