What a different track presented the Riders at round 7 & 8 of the Australian Offroads at wedderburn last weekend.
With only 6mm of rain from the Vic round to Sat of the aussie round the conditions were perfect, the track had been set in reverse and an extra 3 mins of new track put in, the race was set to be perfect.
I led out the juniors in what I can only suggest was the best conditions I had ridden in for a long time, then on the start line the rain started, just drizzleing as the juniors took off but soon turned to a steady downpour ...
This didnt stop Vic #1 Junior Alex Stephenson setting the Fastest Lap time outright for the day in seniors and Juniors and Winning the 1.5 hour XC with over a 5 min lead to another Vic Rider Lachlan Terry.
Then it was time for the seniors to line up, and with over 8mm of rain during the junior race the track was no longer Pristine, it more resembled a Muddy pig pen with over 8 inches of slop for the 22 min loop, this didnt stop the big boys lineing up and giving it their best.
KTM rider Ben Grabbam got the holeshot to AJ roberts then Vic #1 Daniel Milner lead the crew into the shrubbs, with names like Price, Merriman, Bewley, Hutton and Harper left in the mud it was on !!!
This didnt stop KTM Rider Toby Price from comming in first after lap 1 and not looking back to take the win, fellow KTM rider Ben Grabham 2nd and KTM rider Jarod Bewley 3rd, giving KTM the 1 2 3 they have been looking for, Wellard Ballards rider Stefan Merriman did well to go from 11th off the line to 2nd outright, when on the last lap only a few corners from the end a lack of judgement in fuel left him in the paddock as a DNF.
Merriman joined a distinguished list of DNF riders like Jason davis, Karl Power, Ben Burrell, Scott Keegan, Daniel Milner, AJ Roberts, this showed how tuff the Bendigo Boys can set up a track that will test even Australias best.
Special Mention goes to Vic Rider Rick Miles, Finishing 5th outright at an Australian round, Awesome Result ...
Sunday saw the sun come out and riders pick up the pace a bit to accomodate for the dryer conditions.
The Club spent hours in the dark Setting up what would be a great 8 min Sprint loop with 50% new track and 50% rough track.
Vic #1 Daniel Milner came out with a rush Winning Test 1 outright by 6 secs to Stefan Merriman and 3rd Vic #1 Junior Alex Stephenson leaving Australias best in their wake ...
Test 2 saw Bewely, Meriman and Price start to get their times down and there was some great riding for Spectators.
After 6 loops Stefan was 14 secs up on Toby in second and Jarrod 3rd, Daniel Milner was a close 4th.
Vic #1 Junior Alex Stephenson was over 1.5 Mins up after their 5 loops and an unexpexted 3 min Penality {not rideing related} saw him slip to 4th
All in all it was a good weekend and the Vic guys that competed did an awesome job, well done guys ..
Bendigo Motorcycle Club would like to send out a Big thank you to Pat Heeney and his crew for all their help leading up to the event including Sylvia for sitting in the cold doing the backup timing.
